Istanbul for Pakistani Travelers: A 5-Day Guide
Istanbul is one of the most rewarding city breaks available to Pakistani travelers: rich Islamic history, spectacular food, and a city that genuinely spans two continents. Here is how we plan a first visit.
Visa and Getting There
Pakistani passport holders need a visa; travelers holding a valid visa or residence from certain countries may qualify for the e-visa. Requirements change, so check with us for the current process — we handle Turkey applications regularly. Direct and one-stop flights connect Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad to Istanbul year-round.
Where to Stay
Sultanahmet puts the major historical sites at your doorstep — best for a first visit. Taksim/Beyoğlu offers modern hotels, shopping, and nightlife-free family areas nearby. Both are well connected by tram and metro.
A Balanced 5-Day Itinerary
- Day 1 — Sultanahmet: Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, and the Hippodrome, at an unhurried pace.
- Day 2 — Ottoman heritage: Topkapi Palace, the sacred relics chamber, then the Grand Bazaar.
- Day 3 — The Bosphorus: morning cruise between two continents, afternoon in Ortaköy and Dolmabahçe Palace.
- Day 4 — Eyüp and the Golden Horn: Eyüp Sultan Mosque, cable car to Pierre Loti hill, and the Süleymaniye Mosque.
- Day 5 — Asian side: ferry to Üsküdar and Kadıköy for markets and food, back for sunset at Galata.
Food
Nearly everything is halal, which makes Istanbul wonderfully easy. Do not leave without trying a proper kebap in Sirkeci, balık ekmek (fish sandwich) by the Galata Bridge, künefe, and Turkish breakfast — a meal in itself.
Practical Tips
- Buy an Istanbulkart on arrival — it covers tram, metro, bus, and ferries.
- Carry lira in cash for bazaars and taxis; cards work everywhere else.
- Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) have the best weather.
- Dress modestly for mosque visits; scarves are provided but bringing your own is easier.
